On FRED, I would like to calculate monthly Personal Consumption Expenditures Excluding Food and Energy (Chain-Type Price Index) (PCEPILFE) (SA) excluding housing, either by removing it from this metric or combing all of the other components.

I did find Quarterly Personal consumption expenditures: Services: Housing and utilities (DHUTRC1Q027SBEA) (SA) and Annual Personal consumption expenditures: Services: Housing: Rental of tenant-occupied nonfarm housing (chain-type price index) (DTENRG3A086NBEA) (Not SA).

Also available are monthly Real personal consumption expenditures: Energy goods and services, Billions of Chained 2012 Dollars, Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (DNRGRX1M020SBEA) though I am unsure what inflation series should be used to convert to nominal, especially when this series is part of building an inflation index.

On the BEA website, and many others, I have found past references to Core PCE Services excluding housing but nothing that was up to date. How can I make this calculation, and/or is it available to view or via API somewhere, either MoM or a 3-month Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate?

  • $\begingroup$ Could be an inconsistency in your question... "Personal Consumption Expenditures Excluding Food and Energy" is not the same as "Core PCE Services" which appears in the title. $\endgroup$
